I have witnessed a growing crisis in this country over the last twenty years, embodied by a complete lack of personal responsibility in many social contexts. When I say personal social responsibility, I am talking about a special kind of integrity and willingness to stand up for what you believe in, that seems to have gone out of style. When I say there is a crisis, I am talking about the wholesale surpassing of what an individual believes to be right and worth standing up for with what an individual believes to be seen as acceptable to get involved in; the vacuum of irresponsibility and the abyss of apathy this creates.

Even though the Beatnik is closed for the summer we are planning on hosting events when possible in support of the Obama 08 campaign. If you are interested in putting anything on to support the Obama campaign (or other related candidates) please let me know. We will not be able to serve food/drinks etc. while we are closed (we are replacing equipment etc.) but the location can still work well as a meeting place.

I have put up a filter so that everyone requesting an account for this website has to first come through me. I apologize in advance if it takes me awhile to give you access, since I get numerous requests a day and it take awhile to sort through the "real" people from the spammers. I request that if you want an account so that you can post to this website, please put something personal in the form so that I know your not a spammer otherwise your account may remained blocked, or even deleted. What happened to them?

There are so many fine musical artists in this area, so... I was just wondering why aren't any of them scheduled to play on weekends at the Beatnik?

What's going on there? Word has it that the Beatnik is going under. Since Nicole's departure, it sure seems like this is what is happening.
